SUNNYVALE, CA — Maxim Integrated Products has released the MAX2117 zero-IF (ZIF) tuner for UHF-band MMDS applications. This device receives QPSK signals in the 470 MHz to 1000 MHz range and down-converts them to baseband for demodulation. Specifically designed for China's UHF-band MMDS systems, the MAX2117 is compatible with most DVB-S demodulators. A low 8 dB (typical) noise figure, combined with a better than 25 dB (typical) adjacent-channel protection ratio (ACPR), makes this device ideal for MMDS applications.

The MAX2117 operates from a single, 3.3 V 5 percent supply and consumes only 330 mW. Though it has been designed to operate with a low-cost 4 MHz crystal, an internal reference divider allows the user to select any crystal in the 4 MHz to 8 MHz range.
Fully specified over the 0 degrees Celsius to +70 degrees Celsius commercial temperature range, the tuner is available in a small, 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin TQFN package. An evaluation kit is available to speed designs.
