High-power, solid-state, UHF power amplifier for airborne and fixed location operations

Newbury Park, CA — CAP Wireless (CAP) has released the US1498 high power, solid state, ultra-high frequency (UHF) power amplifier, which is designed especially for airborne and fixed location operations. The amplifier delivers outstanding efficiency, linearity, and power amplification, and its robust construction facilitates operation in thermally challenging settings. Power efficiency is over 28 percent (two channels, 100 W/channel), while linearity is less than -30 dBc.

The amplifier employs laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) device technology, which ensures reliability and robustness in high temperature and poor load voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) environments.

The dual input, single output design provides a minimum of 100-W per channel output across a frequency range of 290 to 320 MHz. The amplifier operates at full rated capability when operated from a 22 to 32 volt DC power supply. The US1498 is packaged in a thermally-efficient, finned, lightweight aluminum housing for customer-supplied forced air cooling, and incorporates four-bit digital attenuators on each channel that enable independent power control of each channel.

Other features include a wide range DC supply voltage capability of 22 to 32 VDC, minimum power of 100 W per channel or 250 W for a single channel, enhanced redundancy capability, VSWR and high temperature alarm outputs, AN/PRC 117(F) compatibility, integrated output isolator for a tight impedance match and protection against poor VSWR, as well as continuous operation capability at elevated ambient temperatures.
