Hannover, Germany — Radio Frequency Systems (RFS) claims to have launched the world's smallest and most cost-effective diplexer range — the FD9R6004 wideband diplexer series. Industry leading electrical performance and installation flexibility, coupled with compact size, low weight and cost-effective design, makes the diplexer series an ideal first for network overlays worldwide.
Offering a global RF solution, the FD9R6004 series has been designed to enable feeder cable sharing between systems in the 806 to 960 MHz and 1710 to 2200 MHz ranges, and supports the increasing prevalence of multi-band networks across the globe.
Thanks to its wideband design, the diplexer series can accommodate the combining of a number of wireless communications services, such as Cellular 800 MHz with PCS, GSM900 with GSM1800 or GSM900 with UMTS2100.
According to the company, most competing wideband diplexers only extend to 2170 MHz, while the FD9R6004 series can accommodate services up to 2200 MHz, making it ideal for S-UMTS/DVB-SH applications where the downlink extends to the 2110 to 2200 MHz envelope. Further these diplexers enable carriers to add new frequencies without having to invest in additional cable runs, which saves on tower rental fees and installation expenses.
Rated to IP67, the FD9R6004 diplexer series weighs only 1.4 kg and is only 0.43 L in volume. It is ideal for outdoor use in any climatic conditions, and features in-line long-neck connectors for easy connection and waterproofing, while its compact and lightweight construction makes installation straightforward, especially in crowded tower-top environments.
The high-performance peak power handling capability of the FD9R6004 series allows carriers to use multiple transmit frequencies at full power. Furthermore, integrated DC block/bypass versions (full band, low band and high-band) are available, enabling it to be used in association with tower-mount amplifiers (TMAs).
The diplexer series provides high levels of rejection between bands and delivers typical insertion loss performance of between 0.1 and 0.15 dB. The diplexer features highly selective filter technology and provides a high level of isolation between its ports —
minimum 60 dB — which minimises interference between services. It also delivers low insertion loss in both paths, even for the integrated DC-block versions, ensuring premium coverage is maintained. A 0.5 dB loss can reduce the cell coverage area by as much as five per cent, so minimising the insertion loss is a real necessity for optimal network performance.
The FD9R6004 series includes a wall- and pole-mounting bracket; it can also be easily upgraded to a dual unit.
