TTi buys Satori technology to boost RF portfolio

LONDON — TTi has extended it range of RF test and measurement products with the purchase of the RF power meter range developed by Satori Technology. It will also take on two engineers who previously worked for the company.

Sarori Technoogy (Biggar, Scotland) was set up in 2003 by former Agilent Technologies engineers who have developed and marketed a range of three USb-based RF power measurement sensors.

TTi, the trading name of Thurlby Thandar Instruments Ltd. (Huntingdon, Cambridge) entered the lower end of the microwave and RF instrument market in 2007 with the PSA-T series of handheld spectrum analyzers.

"TTi will provide the existing Satori product range with an international sales and support channel through its extensive network of experienced test and measurement distributors," said Mark Edwards, sales director for TTi. "The acquisition will also allow for the development of some new RF power sensor products by combining the expertise of the TTi and Satori design teams.

The three existing Satori ST series will be rebranded TTi Satori and are 12.4 GHz, 18.5 GHz and 26.5 GHz USB power sensors. They contain a CPU which controls the sensor, processes the measurement results and operates the interface. All measurement data and settings are sent via a USB interface to and from a PC. This gives the concept of using a PC as the user interface in classic microwave power measurement.

The Satori products were based on the premise that connecting a sensor directly to a PC is the most cost-effective method for high-precision power measurements, especially if a PC is used already for data acquisition and evaluation. This is commonly the case in production environments which includes a process controller. Omitting the display unit saves space in the test rack and reduces costs.
