Micronetics buys part of MA/COM's RFID lines

LONDON — Microwave and RF components and subassemblies specialist Micronetics, Inc. (Hudson, NH) is buying, for an undisclosed sum, some of the RFID identification lines of M/A-COM RFID, Inc, , a subsidiary British defense , aerospace and sub-assembly group Cobham plc (Wimborne, England).

The product line consists of portal systems with directional intelligence, sensor based forklift systems and high performance RFID antennas.

Over 12,000 of MA/COM's portals have been deployed in the field over the last four-years. The latest forklift sensor has passed initial Beta testing and is now entering a pre-production test phase. All production deployments have been to an un-named global retailer.

Commenting on the deal, Dave Robbins, CEO of Micronetics, said it represents a further step in the company's core strategy of being a premier supplier of RF/Microwave subsystems.

"We believe these RFID products could have a significant near-term upside and provide growth opportunities for RF/Microwave antenna technology in commercial and defense markets," said Robbins.

The company said the production of the range of devices being acquired will be shifted to existing lines at Micronetics' Hudson facility.

M/A-COM RFID was formed in July of 2008 and holds some assets from the acquisition in September 2008 by wholly owned subsidiaries of Cobham plc of the M/A-COM RF components and microwave subsystems business of Tyco Electronics Group S.A.
