Guidelines for submitting editorial material to Microwave Engineering EuropeProduct and data releases The preferred method for submission of press releases is electronically via e-mail to the Editorial Director Jean-Pierre Joosting. The body of the e-mail should contain at least a summary of the contents of the press release, which should be attached in Word format. Photographs should be attached as separate files in 300dpi JPEG format. Releases should contain detailed technical parameters for new products, or should be accompanied by a datasheet (PDF or Word format is acceptable). General PR-style press releases are not sufficient. Deadline for New Products and Data items is 5 weeks before commencement of cover month. Technology and Applications Focus The preferred method for submission of information for the Focus sections is electronically via e-mail to Jean-Pierre Joosting. The body of the e-mail should contain a synopsis of the material being submitted, which should ideally take the form of datasheets, applications notes and previously or soon-to-be-published technical papers on the latest developments in the field covered by the Focus topic. Word and PDF formats are the most acceptable. Photographs, charts, diagrams and other illustrations should be attached as separate files in 300dpi JPEG format. The Focus is written entirely by the Microwave Engineering Europe editorial staff based on the material submitted. Subject to prior agreement with the Editor, short contributed papers of 600 - 1000 words with 1 - 3 illustrations may also be accepted for inclusion in one of the Focus sections. Deadline for Focus contributions is 6 weeks before commencement of cover month. Technical papers Most of the technical articles published in Microwave Engineering are contributed world-wide from external sources. While some are commissioned, many are received unsolicited. The remainder are prepared by in-house editorial staff. While it is acceptable to submit an unsolicited paper in its completed form, initially it is often more efficient if a short synopsis of a proposed paper is e-mailed to the editor for comments and the go-ahead, which will also allow us to plan and allocate editorial page space. The ideas for commissioned papers can come from technical conferences, press conferences and press releases, or even telephone calls to the editorial office. Papers are usually required to be 1500 to 2000 words in length. The text can include figures (typically 6 - 10 for a standard article) in the form of cross-sections, circuit or block schematics, graphs or histograms (with numerical scales), screen shots, and photographs including SEM or micrographs. Equations can also be included. In all cases the figures, diagrams, or photographs must be used to add to the engineering content of the article. The copy can be emailed to the address below preferably as a Word file. It is helpful if a PDF (with fonts embedded) can be sent for verification purposes, especially where equations are used, but a Word/text file should always be sent as well. Figures/diagrams can be embedded in the e-mailed document, but please also send them as separate JPEG or TIF files. Unless they are photographs or screen shots, the figures will be redrawn in house style, and having them available in electronic form minimises the possibility of error. The editor reserves the right in some cases to
edit and modify submitted material to fit the available editorial space, improve
the content and match the normal style of the magazine. The editorial staff of
Microwave Engineering Europe have a long experience in editing technical papers
in order to improve them, and authors may not always see the final version
before the paper goes to press, therefore when submitting a feature to Microwave
Engineering Europe authors accept this as an agreed condition. |
