Systemonic launches WLAN solution

Systemonic, a provider of silicon-system solutions for multi-protocol, wireless communications applications, has announced the availability of the H01 Baseband Processor

The H01 is a single-chip, baseband solution that can interface with multiple RF front ends, allowing OEMs to use radios from different sources. The H01 has been designed to support both 802.11a and HiperLAN/2 protocol standards.

The solution incorporates on-board digital filters and high-performance A-D and D-A converters, and is manufactured in 0.18 micron CMOS.

In addition to the H01 solution, Systemonic has announced the availability of the HiperSonic Reference Design Platform, a complete development system for use in rapid global WLAN system development.

The HiperSonic reference design platform includes a 5GHz RF front end, single chip multi-protocol baseband processor, PC Card and aPCI-bus MAC implemented in a MIPS processor, as well as the requisite memory.

"Global OEMs are demanding a single, flexible platform from which to support the different regional standards for wireless communications", said Ruediger Stroh, CEO of Systemonic. "They can't afford the time required to serially design one solution for North America, another for Europe and a third for Japan, not to mention spinning new designs every time a standard evolves. We're the first company to offer a single, flexible platform that allows them to simultaneously develop products for all regions."

In a separate announcement, Systemonic detailed the expansion of its headquarters in San Jose, California.

The new office will focus on sales, marketing, and technical customer support activities for global OEMs located in North America and Asia.

Jim Bland has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing to compliment the new office's activities. He has more than 30 years of experience in operations, sales and marketing, including recent positions at Infineon and Lucent.

"I'm pleased to join Systemonic and hope to play a major role in achieving our goal of being the leading supplier of multi-protocol communications solutions," said Bland. "This company's exciting technology has already been met with very positive reviews by some of the leading, global OEMs in Consumer and Communications products. We will establish all the growth and support operations in San Jose necessary to build our customer base and serve their needs as they develop products for a variety of regional markets."
