AT&T has announced 5G Evolution plans to pave the way to the next generation of faster speeds for its wireless customers with the latest devices in over 20 major metro areas by the end of this year – continuing to focus on the evolution to 5G while the 5G standards are being finalized.

In select areas of Austin, AT&T wireless customers with a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ can already access faster 5G Evolution internet speeds.

"Our 5G Evolution in Austin gives our customers a taste of the future," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Entertainment Group. "With 5G Evolution from AT&T you don't have to wait to experience endless entertainment possibilities on the next generation network when you have the latest devices."

Indianapolis will launch 5G Evolution this summer, while the timing for the additional metros will be announced in the months ahead. Some of the major metros that will be included in the plans are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, San Francisco and others.

5G Evolution offers infinite possibilities and allows you to take faster internet speeds with you on the go. In Austin, that means it offers twice the speeds of the current 4G LTE network, and can be accessed by customers on almost all AT&T data plans with a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ device. These faster speeds allow reduced gaming lag and less buffering when watching your favorite shows while on the go.

By the end of this year, AT&T plan to offer numerous other devices that can take full advantage of its 5G Evolution experience.
