Verkotan Oy is a high technology Over-the-Air (OTA) testing and certification test laboratory that offers, for example, high quality and demanding 5G antenna-measurement services to antenna vendors, mobile network equipment manufacturers and network operators in a sophisticated test environment.

Verkotan’s latest anechoic test chambers are now ready to serve the most demanding 5G-customers. The chambers are equipped with the MG3710E Vector Signal Generator and MS2692A Signal Analyzer from Anritsu.

According to Kari Komonen, CEO of Verkotan, the partnership with Anritsu can provide traditional passive antenna testing as well as building active antenna beamforming testing capability for 5G base station EIRP and EIS OTA measurements.

“Our own software combined with Verkotan’s unique measuring methods and Anritsu’s world class test equipment forms the combination on which we can build our future” says Kari Komonen.

Additionally Verkotan has a tailored service called RF Modification. It is a test solution for 4G modem performance testing of smartphones, and now also for testing 5G modems in 5G phones, hotspots, handsets and so on. The modification is done by bypassing antennas of the phones or other devices with coaxial cables. Verkotan tests and identifies technologies and frequency bands that are functional via each cable. After this the modem performance can be easily tested without the impact of antennas.

“We tested throughput performance rates of a 5G smartphone. The test was made in collaboration with Anritsu using their Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A. We achieved throughput in the order 180 Mbit/s in SISO mode, 360 Mbit/s in 2×2 MIMO mode and 720 Mbit/s when 4×4 MIMO was used”, says Komonen
